It's not hard to convince athletes to dedicate time and effort to build their fitness and physical skill set. However, fewer athletes dedicate the time needed to strengthen their mental game. If you've ever experienced things like performance anxiety, lack of confidence, or choking, then you've seen just how powerful the mind can be. A deficit in mental skills can quickly become a barrier to tapping into the physical abilities that you have so diligently practiced and trained. When your mind is tied up with negative or unproductive thoughts it becomes difficult for your body to perform the way you have physically prepared for it to. If you're striving to perform at your best you simply cannot leave mental skills out of the equation.

It takes time, effort, and intentional practice to perfect a physical skill, and the same is true for mental skills. When you're in a performance situation, productive thoughts and emotions need to be habitual and rehearsed, freeing up your mind to focus on what is necessary to perform at your best. Through one-on-one sessions we'll identify the specific distractions and dysfunctional thought patterns standing in your way and then start training the mental skills needed to confront those challenges.

The life of an athlete is not just about physical training. To get the most out of yourself, the mental side of training is equally, if not more, important. After experiencing a life threatening injury in 2017 while competing in a Skyrunning World Series race, Hillary experienced this first hand and had to work on her mindset, outlook and mental game to return to running, and eventually competing. She realized a deficit in mental skills can quickly become the barrier to tapping into the physical abilities which she spent so many years diligently practicing and training. She had to work on clearing her mind of negative and unproductive thoughts so she could work through her injuries and return to running. It was only when she worked through these barriers that she was able to compete at a high level again.

It takes time, effort and intentional practice to perfect these mental skills, similar to athletic skills. This is why Hillary has earned a certification in sports psychology coaching, so she can help people to reach their potential by working through their mental blocks. While she specializes in athletes coming back from injury, and the mindset associated with self-identity, performance anxiety, lack of confidence and imposter syndrome, she works with athletes on any level to help work through specific distractions and dysfunctions holding you back.
